On Monday, 24 November 2025, an official delegation from the Union of Islamic Scholars in Kurdistan visited the University of Zakho. The delegation was headed by Dr. Abdullah Waisi, President of the Union, and was warmly received by the respected President of the University, Prof. Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed.

The meeting focused on the important role of higher education institutions in shaping national identity and strengthening a renewed sense of belonging.

Dr. Waisi emphasized the essential role of the University of Zakho in becoming a leading center for promoting national awareness among its students. He highlighted that such efforts contribute greatly to fostering an enlightened national identity, preserving culture, and reinforcing a unified sense of national purpose.

He also extended official congratulations to the University for its notable academic achievements and participation during the previous two months in various academic activities.

The President of the University expressed his appreciation for this significant visit and praised the supportive stance of the Union. He reaffirmed the University’s strong and official commitment to promoting and supporting national awareness and social cohesion within the academic and community environment of the University.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue cooperation between the Union of Islamic Scholars and the academic sector in order to serve the public interest of the Kurdistan Region.
